I have been asked to make a 3d bonsi tree cake, the cake part being the "flower pot" it sits in, and a bonsi tree growing out of it. I know what I want to do for the flower pot and little decorations that will sit in the "bowl", but how on earth do I make this tree stand up in the center of the cake and not fall over??? I am using modeling chocolate....so it will be quite heavy. I was thinking of making like a tripod type stand for it out of skinny dowel rods and just sticking them into the cake...any suggestions??

I would first use wire to get the shape I want eg. branches, trunk. That being my base then I would cover with modeling chocolate. I would give the tree above grown roots so that the base of the tree is quite wide and counter balances. Hope that makes sense.
