Bridal Shower Cake W/"vintage" Flowers?
Decorating By KJ62798 Updated 7 Oct 2010 , 1:41am by KJ62798
I'm doing a small (6in square) bridal shower cake for a shower a friend is hosting. My friend wants chocolate ganache for the frosting/filling.
The bride's colors are brown and light aqua. She's young/hip and likes 50's & 60's vintage fabrics. The plan is to do fondant flowers & ribbons on the top.
Any suggestions for flower styles that might have a more vintage feel to them. Other than the color combo of aqua/brown I have creative license.
TIA
Kristy
I do vintage fashion shows and big bold flowers is what happened in the 50,'s and 60's....bows.... not to sure about seems too frilly for the eras.

Thanks--I was thinking that a single large flower would be better than a bunch of little ones. The glitter is a nice idea.
hmmmmm....what kind of flower?

this cake pic was posted recently & I just love it, I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but anyway.....

LOVE that flower! I need to look for the tutorial.
I did a google search for pin-up girl flowers and found this pic of a hairclip flower:

I'm wondering if I could make this out of fondant/gumpaste.

Jessica Harris makes a lot of these type of cakes and flowers.

very very pretty, thanks for sharing. i'm going to save this one too
The 50's & 60's were such different decades. But having lived through the 60's, I can tell you that daisies were very popular in the 60's...including those in fantasy colors!!!
THANK YOU!!!! for all the great ideas. I have the Jessica Harris cake in my faves already.
I love her ruffled cupcakes on the blog. It says that she has a tutorial for those here on CC. I have to see if I can find it.
I hit Joann's today for fabric to use on the cake board. Found a lovely pale aqua w/a dark brown floral that looks vintage. I'm going to run it past my friend. I think the dahlia style flower will look really good with it. I'll practice those and the ruffly circle ones over the weekend.
Let's see if the fabric pic will attach.
EDIT-nope.
The tutorial is not on CC. It's in one of the issues. She was called to make those for the magazine. I don't think they're hard to do. Just fondant circles folded in half and then in quarters attached to the buttercream.
Loved the 60s mod flower power motif-

Let's see if this works--link to the fabric

I went back to the blog and realized that
I'll have to play with the folded circles.

One more... I was looking for it, but I download so many things...

It's a variation of the J Harris cake done by moonbabel.
Hey everyone,
Spent the weekend experimenting with flavors and playing with vintage flowers. I tried out the tutorial for the fondant dahlias.
Here's the result:

I also made some corsage style flowers but I don't have those on cake yet. Not sure yet which I will use on the final cake. I like the dahlias but they are a little overwhelming on such a small cake.
Let me know what y'all think--THANKS!

Oh, I love it...just put it in my favorites! The dahlia on top is a little big, but I like it that way! Nice job.
I love it! Got it into my favorites already. I like the huge flowers actually. What I would take off are the small ones. But that's just my "simplifying" opinion. Plus, if I remember correctly, you'll have a flowered board, and you don't want it to crash with your cake.

Forgot this cake, from Neiman Marcus. Don't look at the prices... lol.

HOLY GUACAMOLE! $200 for a 7in cake that serves 8-10. $20/serving---aack.
Very cute cake and thanks for all the MaisieFantasie links. LOVE those.

You're welcome.
I think you're wrong...it's not 7 in cake! It's smaller!
7"H x 5"W x 4"D.
It's 7" in height... don't know why they have two other measures instead of just one (width and diameter?), but that's even smaller!!
They're cheesecake, covered in chocolate. I wish someone gave me a free one ('cause I'm not paying for one, ever) so that I can see what the big deal is about them. All of those cakes are so expensive. When I look at them, I think about the cakes I see here and how much those could be if we go by their prices!

Yikes! They'll sell you 12 cake balls for $38. wow! That cake is beautiful!!!
It's Belgian chocolate they're covered with, so that might account for the price, but still...
Saks are a tiny bit cheaper:

Then Dean & Deluca prices:

SORRY, getting off post here. Cute ideas for halloween though at Dean and Deluca. They're all a block or two away from me. I should go look at them in person if they have them on the shelves.
