I am making my daughters 1st bday cake. I want it to be tiered. I have a set of 6, 8, 10 and 12" cake pans (each 2" width). The pans seem thin so should i be making 2 each of the 6, 8 and 10 sizes? I don't want 2" high cakes. i want more like 3 or 4.

Yes, most cake tiers have layers. If the pans are only 2" deep, then yes bake two and then fill them (with buttercream or whatever) and then stack them. You can even cut each layer in half (torte) to make four total layers of cake.

There is a lot of useful information on this site about stacking. Good luck!
