I am making a cake for a friends baby shower and would LOVE to make something like this.

Image
*please note this is not my own creation, just one I love that I found when googling

I have made homemade fondant and covered round cakes before, but never anything like this.

Any tips for the fondant work with this from those of you who've got more experience? What I read for making a purse cake would apply to stacking the cake itsself I would guess right? any tips? What you think I'd need to do?

She loves brown and pink and I don't want to ruin her cake, but just love the look of this even though it's out of my comfort zone on what I know I've done before.

Nice nappy bag!

I'd start with two rectangular slabs, stand them on their sides and glue together with ganache. Chill. then carve the bag shape. Cover in ganache and smooth to the perfect bag shape you want. Then apply the fondant.

The rest of it is the fun bit! All those little fondant/GP trims and bits and pieces icon_smile.gif

(NB: When I say ganache I mean the cold 2:1 ratio stuff)

HTH!
