What type cake/recipe do you use when you are going to be carving it?

I use either pound cake recipes or the cake mix extender recipe found here on cc. Their density really seem to stand up well to the abuse of carving.

I doctor a DH box mix...add a little more oil..about a half cup..and an extra egg with a tsp of vanilla. Then I cool, level, torte and freeze. I then fill the frozen cake and carve from there before it thaws. Then crumbcoat it and let it settle for 3 hours before doing the final coat of BC or fondant.

Thanks everyone for the help/replies. I'm glad I decided to check back on this. I never received an e-mail that there were replies.
