Hey,

I have two cakes due by this friday or saturday. A brother and sister that have birthdays on the 27th and 28th. The little girl wants a violin cake and her favorite color is pink. I have an idea for her. I figure I will make my first carved cake based on a violin template I have and use fondant accents. Then, add pink ribbon roses around the edge.

Her brother is another story. He is a young musician who plays guitar and loves rock music. I know there is a plethora of info for music lovers. However, I need to narrow down my choices so I can get this cake baked and decorated.

His favorite colors are blue and red. I really don't want to do another carved cake since I am doing the sister a carved violin. I need something a bit different. I need something spectacular for this 15 yr old nephew. This is my first opportunity to make him a cake and I really want him to LOVE his cake!! I need ideas FAST!! I know you guys are good. Please let me know!! I really appreciate any and all ideas. Thanks in advance!!

If you don't want to do a carved guitar cake, there are some super cute music note cakes that are round or square : Search under music, notes etc. Also only requires bl&wh fondant - simpler for a quick cake if you need right away!

Ok, I have a bit more info on this boy. He not only plays guitar but also plays piano and drums. The boy is very talented. Still looking for more ideas!!!

Drum set? Start with round cakes, that could be a little easier.

What if you do a "Rock Star" cake. Maybe a two tiered cake the bottom tier in red with piano keys going around the outside, the second tier covered in blue maybe with some music notes, 15's and Rock On and what not on it. Make some guitars out of RI or fondant and lean them up against the second tier. Make a drum set as a topper with the Base drum saying his name looking like a Band logo or something....Just an idea

Here's a good tip to keep in mind when designing the cake...if you can use the word "cute" to describe the cake, then he probably won't like it

If he likes rock music and guitar, drums, etc. then I would go with something a little edgy. Maybe incorporate black and silver along with the red. I know the overall design wouldn't work (it is a wedding cake after all!) but I thought the guitars were a great idea.
