So I have my second wedding cake order coming up in a few weeks. It is going to be a 3 tiered cake to serve 100. i was thinking of using a 12 , 8, 6 " do you think this will be ok for 100??

Also, the wedding reception is at 3pm. When would you decorate/frost the cake?? Early the morning of or the night before??

Here's a link to guidelines for cake sizes/number of servings:

I think the general consensus is 12-9-6 for a 100 serving wedding cake.

For a 3pm reception, I would get everything done the night before. That gives you the morning free to deal w/any cake crisis that might crop up. Never plan to be done at the wire, always give yourself some wiggle room to redo something.

I'd go with 6,9,12. for a saturday wedding I assemble the cakes on Thursday with a crumb coat, let sit overnight to settle, then final coat & decorate on Friday. I'd never wait till the day of- too many things can go wrong!!! Good luck!
