I know that German Chocolate Cakes are not German, and that the main draw to them is the coconut and pecan filling/icing. I also know that many of them are decorated with a chocolate icing around the perimeter of the cake.

My question is this: is that chocolate icing specific (i.e., any special ingredient, like the German chocolate used in the cake)? Or can I just use my go-to chocolate butter cream (which is DELICIOUS)? icon_smile.gif

TIA!!!

I don't think the chocolate part is specific. Do whatever you think will look or taste the best. I usually put a dark chocolate drizzle and border around German Choc. cake.
