Do I Need Support For A 12" X 2" Cake With Two 8&q

I have a cake that will be bottom layer 12" x2" the second tier will be two 8"x2" do I need to support the bottom? Or will the 12x2 hold up both. both tiers will be covered with fondant.
Not so fast. If the 12" tier in only 2" tall, which is what I think she means, and the 8" tier is also only 2" tall, then, no, you don't need support.
The rule is use support for every 4" of vertical height.
This entire cake is only 4" tall. IF I'm interpreting this correctly.
If I'm understanding correctly, she said the top tier is two 8"x2", which is why I figured support was a better idea.
Ah, Piccolo, now I see that. Supports needed.
But the original post is quite confusing.
what do i get for support? I think if I use both 12"x2" layers that I have the cake will be to big. I only need it for 20-25 people. Can I get the supports at the local stores???

Just the 8" (4" tall) will serve 25 so anything over that will be extra. The 12" (2" tall) will serve 28, so you're already double your servings with the one layer of 12"
You'll need to put support in the 12" and a cake board uner the 8". Since it's just an 8" i would even use straws or bamboo skewers. Both easy and readily available at most stores.
