I am doing a 2 tier square 12" and 8" 80's themed 40th birthday cake.

I am at a loss what color to ice this cake in. The only colors the customer requested I not ice in is pink, as the bday girl really does not like it.

For decorations I have made out of fondant A Gold "M" initial ring for the topper, for the sides MTV logo, mini boom box, little converse like sneaker, can of Aqua Net, bright colored bracelets, a cassette tape, record, and lipstick and eyeshaddow.

I think that is plenty of deco's I just don't know what color to ice/border in.

Any ideas?

I was thinking Yellow and Green also. Maybe I do bottom tier green w/yellow border and all the "entertainment"like stuff, then the top Green w/yellow border with all the "beauty' type items.

Thanks!

ok not sold now on the alternate color borders. Anyone have an idea for borders? Bottom layer is green top is yellow. Deco's have pink, purple, blue, black, white.

Thanks!

fondant balls would be ubber cute!! Maybe black and blue alternating on the top layer and black and purple on the bottom or vice versa? 80's is all about color! LOL.
