i was making a graduation cake for my niece that looks like bugs bunny wearing a graduation cap cake.. now i usually like to carve cakes into shape so thats how i made his head

but the big issue was with the ears. i had premade them with gumpaste and let them dry.. but they would not stick ontop of the cake! they were too long and heavy of course and just dug deap in my cake.. tried to put it ontop of the graduation cap .. it stuck there but the cake started crushing my cake.. wat should i have done?? any suggestions?

What I would have probably have done is made the ears out of gumpaste and attached each ear to side of Bugs head just next to bottom of graduation cap and folded them back to look like grad cap was resting on top of the ears.
