I wanted to make a 70th birthday cake - I'm better at decorating than I am baking.
I was thinking about doing a chocolate sponge or mud (or marble) in 3 layers with chocolate mousse or / and whipped cream between each layer.

My question is, should I moisten the sponge with anything, like a liqueur to keep from tasting dry? I recently made a layered sponge with custard and we used peach juice to moisten each layer of cake - I can't be adding peach juice to a chocolate cake so just wondering what you would do?

Decorating ideas - seems a bit plain and boring for a 70th but I don't want to spend forever and a day on it with flowers etc.. my plan was a chocolate collar, fill top with choc coated strawberries and hopefully find a big "70" topper.. any more exciting ideas?
