The cake is either too moist or your icing is too thick. I've had that happen also.

Well...the problem arose after I had it all piped on the cake and I was smoothing it out. I finally got it smooth with the viva...so maybe for the next layer make the BC not so thick? Can the cake be cold when frosting?

I am no expert by any means and I'm sure someone on here will chime in.

When my cakes have been frozen it makes them REALLY moist. I unwrap them and let them "air dry" for a little so the icing will stick. So I've not iced a cold cake, it's always been room temp.

It could be that your icing is getting moisture (condensation) because the inside of the cake is still very cold. I'd let the cake thaw or return to room temp first then work on icing it.

I've had problems with partially frozen cake in the past. It really needs to thaw before icing.
