I am going to make a surprise elmo cake with a color flow elmo. Any suggestions how to support elmo in the cake? If I make his body longer and just stick him into the center of the cake will this be enough? Will the color flow soften and fall over? I was thinking of attaching a couple lollipop sticks to the back with royal icing or gumpaste glue.

Definitely add some support--lollipop sticks, skewers--something. You can attach them with color flow on the back using the same color. Just keep the attachments above the level of the cake.

Yes, if you stick him directly into the cake, he'll crack at the point between the moisture & the air and then fall over and break.
