I will be applying a royal icing stencil to a butter cream cake but the cake needs to be kept cold because of the fillings, fresh strawberries and whipped cream mousse. Will refrigeration damage the stencil? TIA.

I was told that Royal icing would either not harden or it would not stay hard in the fridge- haven't tried it though. Is it possible to put the stencil on at the very end?
