Or:

What NOT to say about a cake!

I'm in the middle of making a wedding cake, and having some frustrations with it...so, I decide to leave it for a while, and go run some errands.

Grocery store, pharmacy, etc, etc...and stop off at an office to pay a bill.

The receptionist says to me:
"So I hear you're making so and so's wedding cake?"
"Yes"...I sigh.
"Oh, is it not going well?"
.
.
.
.
.
Life changing moment.
Right here.

I *could* have thought:
How does this woman know I'm making this cake? and stopped the sequence of events from unfolding like they did.

But nooooooo, I didn't think that at all.

I launch into a cake story...how the bride and groom have changed their minds 50,000 times, and want it ALL for a budget of nothing...they're not serving dessert, so they want the cake to be larger size portions, but for the same price... they want it delivered a day early, for pictures, but only called last night, so I've stayed up way too late getting the thing ready...blah, blah, blah.

The receptionist is listening, quite enthralled, really, to my lonnnnng list of complaints.

She very nicely tells me that she knows it will turn out wonderfully well, I thank her for listening, and I head home to fight with the cake some more.

That evening, I'm delivering the cake.

And guess who walks in with "The Maid Of Honour" t-shirt on...

The receptionist.

(I feel a little dizzy right now, just typing this. icon_cry.gif )

I smiled and waved, dying inside.
She smiled and waved back.

If you're still with me in my humiliation, thank you for reading.
The B&G loved the cake, all is well.

...but I SOOOOO KNOW she told the Bride icon_smile.gif
I hope, only after the wedding day, though. icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh dang!

That really sounds like something I'd do. Made me cringe and squint while I was reading it.

in my humble opinion I think they needed to hear what PIA's they were. I would be upset at first but really, people like that think that they can ask for the moon and the stars and that everyone just loves bending over backwards for them.

I certainly wouldnt do it on purpose (and know you didnt) but I think you shouldnt sweat it either. You act like a horses patoot and eventually someone will call you on it and thats just what happened to them.

Chin up icon_smile.gif they loved the cake, thats all that matters.

I put my foot in my mouth on a daily basis, so I know how you feel. Just try not to beat yourself up about it-they WERE doing the things you said.

OH NO!!

On the other hand, how much you wanna bet that they were PITAs about other wedding stuff and the receptionist was probably relieved that somebody else had to deal with it too.

I'm so sorry! Hope you will be able to laugh about this someday icon_wink.gif

Hmmm, maybe she was a total bridezilla and her MOH agreed. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where I wanted to strangle the bride on a daily basis. I wouldn't have told that bride what someone else said about her, I would have agreed with the cake person.
