Wilton Fondant Tastes Pretty Good Now!

wow... I don't even know what to say. I'm in shock! Wilton fondant was the first fondant I tried (4 years ago) and it was awful. I'm going to have to try some now. This is a good thing.
I just had to run and try some that I have been modeling some figures with. I never taste it anymore, because I can't stand the taste. Well, I just tried it, and its good. No weird taste. I had made a superbowl cake for my sister, they were having a party, and she was saying how people were picking off the fondant accents and eating it. I was telling her, no way, that is that yucky wilton stuff, its not good, and she was arguing with me saying it was good. I thought, man she will eat anything. Haven't covered a cake with it yet, how does it perform?
Wilton fondant is definately different. I bought some last week to mix with gumpaste to make figures, and I thought maybe it was some of the scratch fondant I made earlier. It does not have the chemical taste, softer but still has a little firmness, just really nice. I have two cakes to cover this weekend and plan on getting some from Michaels. The Michaels I go to, has the 5-lb box on sale so I can't use my 40% or 50% coupons!!! Shoooks!!!
Thank you Sharon for posting the heads-up.
Cheers!

hahaha Ceshell......
Ride on over to yer little Michael's and get a box. take one little bite. if it is as nasty as it was before, i will pay for it.
Well, this is interesting.
Loved Leah's initial reaction.
Hmmmmm, looks like I'll be stopping by Michael's today. Wonder why they don't advertise that they changed the recipe/flavor. They had to know that it didn't taste good before.
I haved to agree. I got brave and tasted a bit a few months back because I noticed it didn't have the same chemical smell and was pleasantly suprised that it actually tastes pretty good. Definately very sweet but not offensive in the least. I teach with it weekly and I find it covers cakes and holds up to draping and things just fine.
lol!!! i HAVE ALWAYS USED WILTON FONDANT ON MY CAKES AND LOVED THE TASTE, MY KIDS ALSO LOVE IT, ALWAYS SNEAKING A PINCH TO EAT, BUT WAS ASHAMED TO ADMIT TO IT, BECAUSE EVERYONE ALWAYS SAID IT WAS AWFUL.
iTS MUCH EASIER TO WORK WITH (FOR ME)
Bought some to cover a dummy. While it does taste better than it used to, I could still detect a chemical taste. I wouldn't put it on a cake for a customer. It handles GREAT, but I prefer the taste of MFF to Wilton. Haven't tried many other pre-made brands, just ChocoPan (which was awesome, BTW).
YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL TRYING TO TRICK ME!! IT'S A CONSPIRACY I SAY!!
Yeah!! They'll never get me!! NEVAH!!!
I may have to "bite" and try some. Wilton is readily available in my area. I only purchase SI from globalsugarart, I've never tried Fondx. Where does Choco-Pan rate on the Fondant scale? That is another one I have not tried.
Just to be clear, are we talking the Wilton stuff or the Duff stuff being sold in the Wilton aisle at Michaels??
I made my little niece a small cake (white cake) a couple of weeks ago, but had to use Wilton's since my cake shop is not open on Sundays. It was a last minute get well cake for her. I mixed some strawberry koolaid (the unsweetened powder) in it. It made a nice pink and tasted good. I was surprised. My niece loved it I will stick with Satinice, because I do think it still taste better but it's nice to know that Wilton's is not bad any more just in case since it is more readily available.
just try it guys! Trust me, it does not suck anymore, you might like it!
Disclaimer: I will be using it on cake tomorrow so I do not give it my full endorsement until I see how it does.....
Can't wait to get your opinion Sharon of how it works out. Something is going on with SatinIce and I am looking for a alternative. I will buy some this weekend to try.
Bob you will never be convinced till you take a tiny little taste. It will not kill you; live dangeroously!

I dunno...
Thanks so much for this! I'm making a cake this weekend and wanted to use fondant on it but had resigned myself to using Wilton's for time reasons. I don't feel so bad now!
Bok bok bok bok bok
LOL
Why Miss Sugarshack, are you taunting me?

It's true just bought some its not bad and its alot softer. I didnt believe it but it's true!!
What about that horrible vinegar gone bad smell!! Is that gone also??? I have to get me some to see...
Too Funny! How much White chocolate paste do you add to it? I usually make Toba Garret's fondant (I don't like the MMF) but may have to try this on a cake. Worked great for making figures the last time.
