I am doing a 3-tier cake covered in sugar crystals and I have a few questions if someone would be willing to help me with this.

1. Can you color sugar crystals with luster dust? Any tips on how to do this?
2. What type of quantity of sugar crystals would I need to cover a 12, 9, 6" square cake?
3. Any idea where I could buy large quantities of the sugar chrystals?

I'm just trying to prepare myself and figure on what I need to buy.

Thanks.

Actually, Michaels and Hobby Lobby are about the only places I've found that carry the sugar crystals. none of my wholesalers carry the correct ones. I have not had luck coloring them. I have used colored bc underneath them.

Are you looking at the stuff that looks like tiny flakes? Or are you talking about sparkling sugar? (looks like sparkly regular sugar?)
