Can it be a closed book, like this one from the gallery?

If you search on 'bible' in the gallery, you'll find tons of others.

It looks like you would just use a sheet pan, then cover with fondant or icing.

I would think you could bake a sheet cake. Cut an angle off both the right and left side, then a V cut out of the middle and you should get your shape.

Use a 1/4 or 1/3 sheet pan. Mark the center on each long side of the cake. Mark how far down you'd like the "center crease" to be. Back off a few inches and carve down to that point; do the same on the other side. Carve/bevel down the outside edges. Ice and decorate.

My pleasure. There's a "Bible" cake in my photos. It was done for a group that is working to positively influence our city. Right-hand side is a printed frosting sheet. Left-hand is a duplication of a flower "Logo Garden" in the center of town. Sky is airbrushed; dove is fondant.
