how to make fake ice for cooler cake?

I would make sugar and pour it into real ice cube trays and when hard, pop out. Be careful when cooking the sugar so it doesn't color on you, you need it clear

I'm thinking sugar would be too hot for an ice cube tray!

I have never had a problem with the ice cube trays
