I have 5-5 inch layers that I am stacking. Do I need dowels to support the cake or can I just stack? I dont want it all holey because its only 5 inches across. What would you do? icon_rolleyes.gif

I've made one similar to this, and I absolutely think you should dowel it, even if it's only one through the middle. I used three.

These kind freak me out a bit. I sharpen dowels and angle them from one side to the other and make sure the sharpened end goes into the cake board. I'm always afraid it will tip over during delivery.
