Hi everyone.
I'm interested in making 3D cakes but i have no idea how to carve a cake. I wouldnt even know where to start!
So if anyone could give me tips, ideas, suggestions, i would be very grateful!
Also, what sort of cake should i use?
Thanks in advance!
There are many posts on here about the subject. There isn't an exact one way is best, so you have to play around and see what works for you.
If there a particular shape you want to try first?
Thanks for your reply.
Not really anything in particular. I was just looking more for tips as in what sort of cake, what temp, etc.
I've done a few carved cakes and my favorite way is to start with cakes that are in a similar shape to what I am going for. I know there are people that start with sheet cakes and work from there but I like to have a basic shape in front of me. Like for the Cows in my photos their bodies started as rounds or ovals stacked and I shaved away what I needed to give it more of a rounded effect.
I don't freeze my cakes to carve and either used cake mixes, doctored cake mixes or the extender recipe.
There are some great tortorials out there for specific things as well, so remember google search can be your friend when looking for those.
