How would I make a regular cake mix cake firm and dense enough to carve?

I combined a regular cake mix with a pound cake mix and baked the two together. It carved beautifully and tasted good too.

on this site.. under recipes.. cake recipes.. you will find lots of recipes for carving cakes.. some are called durable white cake.. or durable chocolate cake., etc.. cake mix extenders, etc.. so many.. that will say .. good for carving.. hth
