I don't think I've seen this discussed, but I can't decide if this would work or not. We have our family Christmas coming up on Sat., for which my little nephew has requested red velvet cake w/ the traditional icing.

I wanted to make a present cake, so I could make the bow in advance and have less work the end of the week. But didn't know how the traditional icing would hold up w/ fondant? Is it too fluffy, or would it be sturdy enough? (I've only made this icing a couple of times, so am not as familiar as I am w/ buttercream.)

I know I could just make the bow and lay it on the icing, but thought he would be more amused the more I could make it look like a real present. TIA for any thoughts/suggestions!

i just recently did one and it turned out fine. i just made sure to make the cream cheese icing thicker than i normally would and let the icing crust up before applying the fondant. i made another one without thickening up the icing and that one turned out to be a disaster! good luck!
