Hello

I am looking for vanilla icing for cupcakes that I can colour red. I need something stiff to hold sesame street rings.

Thanks

1 cup unsalted butter (1/2 pound)
1 cup vegetable shortening
4 - 6 cups powdered sugar, sifted
heavy pinch of pickling salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1-2 tbsp water

Cream together butter and shortening until very very creamy. Add the pickling salt and vanilla extract and 1 cup of the powdered sugar. Mix and then scrape sides of bowl. Continue adding powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached. If icing is too thick, thin with water, 1 tbsp at a time.

Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 2 weeks, refrigerated up to 2 months, in the freezer up to 1 year.
