I am ready to try IMBC from all the rave reviews here! However, my potential design is to pipe black swirls over the cake, and I am worried that (1) I won't be able to color IMBC black, and (2) with black, it might bleed into the frosting. Should I just use IMBC, then cover with fondant to do the swirls?

Thanks for your help!

You can color IMBC black. I've never had a problem with IMBC bleeding.

Thanks for such a quick reply! Did you just use Americolor black, or do you have any other recommendations?

I just use americolor black and color the smallest amount possible for what I need.
