Has anyone ever done the crisscross stitch on top of butter cream? I have looked and found nothing.
I have not but imagine if it is a crusting BC I would think it is possible. You can easily give it a test run to see if it works.

I do it all the time.. All you need to do is use crusting buttercream. Is actually easier to do in buttercream than fondant..lol

Sugarshacks DVD's goes into great detail on the how to, her butter cream looks great.
I do it on BC all the time, also. I use a skewer to make the indentation (I just eyeball the spacing), but I know there are impression mats that work on BC for this, too.
Yes Sharon said she used impression diamond mat.........and since I do not have one I guess Indy and the big sticks is who I need discuss further hehe.....I want to try it on my anniversary cake
