so i am making cakes in the shape of beer cans and covering in fondant then painting the fondant to look like a beer can.

but i have been having fondant torubles that i have never had before. the fondant is folding instead of smoothing out when i try to wrap the cake. i have no idea what is wrong, it is the right consistency but it doesn't seem to have any stretch in it, it is very easily pulled apart, so im not sure what i messed up... i use this recipe a few times, and it worked. but i was wondering if there was a way to fix this batch, or if it is just because i am doing something wrong?

how big are these cakes?

small like a real can?

if so, might it be better to roll out the fondant and let it set a bit to stiffen and then place the cake on its side and roll it up in the stiffened fondant?
