fyi - Lauri from Cake Alchemy does this technique on a recent episode of Amazing Wedding Cakes. Supposedly a 2000 year old candy technique. Skip the peanut process if you are applying it to the cake as fringe (obviously):

Has anyone else tried this cool technique? I think this would make a great topic in one of the upcoming CC magazine articles - anyone else concur?
