I'm making cupcakes and I want to cover them with fondant...I have never done so.

I'm I supposed to use the pour fondant, and dip the cupcakes into it?

you can use either regular fondant or poured fondant.
for the regular stuff, just cut out a circle that first the top, and put a little something like bc or jam on top of the cupcake first.
for poured fondant, you can either dip the cupcake in or spoon it on top.
