I'm attempting to make ball-shaped mini cakes for a wedding, similar to the christmas ornaments seen in the cc gallery. They will be decorated with piping detail and displayed on a tiered stand. I've baked 200 half balls and assembled them with buttercream. Now I'm having a problem covering them with fondant. My question is, how do you finish off the bottoms of the sphere smoothly, without overlapping the fondant, or causing unsightly seams?
Unfortunately, I'm a perfectionist and 'almost without flaws' won't do for me. Any comments, tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated, I'm beginning to wish I hadn't tackled this one . . .
thanks in advance[/quote]

Elevating them on a smaller surface helps.
