So I'm trying to figure something out and I hope someone can help me.

For those of you who are aware of WoW, the mages are able to do this ice block ability. My fiance wants to have his groom cake as his bloodelf mage frozen in the ice block. I'm trying to firgure out how to do the ice block that will surround his character. Any ideas? He really wants it to look like ice. But doesn't want just a "glass dome" placed over top of a cake. He wants it to look like the character is encased by ice.

The only thing I can think of is poured sugar -when it's clear, it looks like ice. I would do squares and then put them together like a block with the figure inside (as long as the figure isn't to large). Good Luck!
