do you have a picture? do you want a champagne cake covered in fondant? or a sugar bottle?

substantially the same technique to make a standing champagne bottle, just the carved shape will be different.
of lying down bottle -- cut rounds of cake in half and stand on edge -- still dowel all the way through -- the carve the shape
