Hi there, i am wanting to get into cake making and would like to try and do a birthday cake for a friend. Can anyone suggest a good recipe or site that will help me?

You've come to the ultimate site right here! Under recipes, search for WASC (white almond sour cream cake). It's a great tasting cake and easy to make. If it's your first and you don't want to get too adventurous, do a basic buttercream icing (recipe in recipe section).

You can ice with buttercream, let it dry a bit then smooth with a viva papertowel, that is super easy and gives a nice professional look. If you want, buy some colored fondant from walmart or Michaels and cut out some fondant polkadots or designs and place on the cake - voila! your friends will be so impressed!
