I have been asked to make a football (as in the oval shaped ball - not round icon_razz.gif) and was wondering what would be the best type of cake to use. I was thinking a wasc cake but would like to try a red velvet. It would be a filled cake also.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that pound cake is really good for carving.

I agree with ^^^^. Pound cake, though WASC is pretty stable too.

Pound cake is my first choice. WASC is a good cake but it is better carved frozen because it crumbles.
