I made a 9in round 2 layer cake. When I cover it with fondant, the fondant gathers up around the bottom. How do I prevent this?

When you smooth the fondant, smooth from the top down, moving around the cake as you move down, a little at a time. Do not try to smootht he fondant around the cake. If it starts to bunch up, gently pull it away from the cake to unwrinkle it and smooth it back towards the cake. Keep doing this until you get to the bottom.

Towards the end it helps if you lift the cake off the table onto something slightly smaller than the cake (a coffee can or something similar) and smooth straight down, then trimming it flush with the board. Make sure you trim a lot of the excess off before doing this though, because if there is too much extra fondant hanging when you elevate it, it will pull down and tear the fondant.

Thankt you Sooo much! That makes sense to lift it up so the fondant is hanging when I cut it!!! Why didn't I think of that? icon_biggrin.gif
