A mom just called and needs this cake for Saturday. She wants like this but in sunflowers.

The cupcakes I can make w/oreos as the centers. But what about the center of the cake? Is there an icing that is black and not gross tasting? The only places to buy cake stuff at here is Walmart and Hobby lobby.
TIA!

Oh and she doesnt like fondant icon_sad.gif

What about making the icing chocolate and then it would only take a little bit of black coloring? I do that and it's not gross tasting.

What if you just use a lot of cocoa and make it super chocolatey, instead of using black. I've seen some sunflower pics with brown in the center instead of black. Then you don't have to worry about a yucky taste. You could even ask the mom if dark brown would work instead of black, due to taste issues of black. I'm sure she'd go for it! (especially if she loves chocolate! icon_smile.gif)

I made a sunflower cake last summer and used mini chocolate chips for the centre. It was the piece that all the kids wanted!
