The title says it all! My son wants "polka dots" on his birthday cake for tomorrow, and I thought about using M&Ms. I use a buttercream very similar to IndyDebi's. Will the color from the M&Ms bleed onto the white buttercream and cause me problems? I'd be sticking them around the side of the sheet cake using bc for the "glue".

Thanks for reading!

I've used M&M's many, many times on my BC cakes. I've never had a problem with them bleeding color onto the white. "Melts in your mouth, not in your hands"...or icing! You can always wait as long as possible to add them, if you're concerned.

It should be just fine, but if it makes you at all nervous anyway, use Skittles!

Thanks for your replies. I stuck 'em on last night, and we're still good to go!
