HTH.
spend lots of time at cake central, browsing through the tutorials, forums and pictures. there is pretty much everything you will ever need to know right here.
benvenuto!
I suggest you just spend lots of time looking through the site: especially the "how do I" forum http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-forum-14.html
you might also look through You Tube.
There are lots of great videos.
CC has great advice for specific topics.
You could try You Tube and type in "How to Decorate a cake".
Some CCer's have their own videos :
toneda's
serious_cakes
are some with some great tips and visual guides.

You could also order sugarshack's DVD's. They take you step by through icing the cake, stacking, applying fondant, making bows, etc. http://www.sugaredproductions.com/ Also jennifermi's DVD's http://www.jenniferdontz.com/dvds.php are very helpful. If you have a Michaels or Hobby Lobby near by they offer Wilton classes.
