Hi CC family,

I'm in need of a Buttercream recipe for character cakes. I did an elmo and it turned out horrible... it was too soft then it it too hard.. So i gave up.
Is it better to use a crusting buttercream or not for the Character cake.
HELP! My son's birthday is comingup and I don't want to create another mess..

Thanks Diamondsmom

have you tried the IMBC? It's great to pipe with and stays soft.

I have found the Wilton class buttercream recipe to work the best for character cakes for me. I substitute half of the crisco for butter and it still works great.

I agree with cherrycakes and use wilton BC recipe. I do the same thing and substitue half the crisco for butter and it works great. I think the full crisco is a little on the greasy side.
