Hi guys - I've been asked to make this cake for next weekend, and have a basic idea of how to make this shape, but have never carved this disc-like 3-d shape. The fondant/decorating part doesn't seem to be such a worry, but I'd welcome any suggestions you'd have for me. Thanks for looking to help!

looks like you could cut the basic shape out of a sheet cake and the build the top with another cake to get the rounded shape. At least that is what I would do. Hope this helps

I would say do the round part with a couple of layers of a 12" round cake and then the forward parts that stick out Iwould carve out of a sheet cake then cover with fondant. HTH
