How do I get a race flag checker board or black and white checkerboard on a square or round cake. I'm a true beginner and need the easiest cleancut route as possible

I would say make a paper template of the top of your frosted cake. Then use the template to map out all of your squares, then use this tempate to cut out squares in fondant..

This way it should fit just perfect..
