I work in a hospital laboratory. Our lab week celebration is coming up next month. Every year we have a lab specien look-a-like contest. The rules are it has to look like a lab specimen and made completly of edible materials. I thought what better food medium to make it from than cake?! I'm just running low on ideas. Stool samples are too easy, so be creative for me! Thanks in advance!

How about a petrie dish with bacterial growth? A number of years ago I was asked to make a birthday cake for a lab tech whose birthday had been inadvertently forgotten.

If I made it these days, I'd probably use piping gel for the culture medium shine. I don't know what you have in mind, but this thing was a hit.

Another idea:
Previously I had made an amputated leg birthday cake, complete with toe tag, for a pathologist who is in this same group of people.

Here's the leg link. Sorry, it was a scanned image so it looks soft:

Good luck! I want to see a pic of whatever you decide to do! I worked as an ER nurse for 10 years so I know that nothing is safe from the strange/irreverent sense of humor medical personel have.icon_smile.gif

Those are both really cute ideas! I too had thought about an amputated foot, I've just never done anything quite that detailed. If I do it, I'm going all out, gangrenous wounds, and fungus filled toenails! Thanks for the ideas!
