I need to make a flag out of fondant/gumpaste, but don't know how to get the stripes to look good...I don't have an airbrush. Any ideas would be appreciated........thank you

I would just cut them out of fondant or gumpaste.

Personally I made a flag cake for the 4th of July and just used licorice whips for the stripes.

. . . you could just use painter's tape (usually blue in color) . . . mask out the areas that will remain white . . . hand paint the exposed areas . . . remove the painter's tape and voila . . .

so far so good. I made the flag and its drying now...you can see some of the brush strokes, but all in all I think it looks good...it was easy with the tape. I have a few rollers underneath to make it look like its waving....I'ts about 8 1/2 x 13......I am putting it on a full sheet double layer cake....the cake is for Friday so I will post it either Friday or Saturday....thank you again for your suggession....

I made this cake and did the flag in fondant. I cut the red stripes, put vanilla extract on the backside (acts like glue) and put the stripes onto the white fondant. It held together beautifully.

Oh wow that is a nice looking flag.

The pic is there, but there is a weeks-old CC glitch with attached photos, sometimes they show up, sometimes you have to reset the page like 15 times to get 'em to show...keep trying icon_biggrin.gif.
