any other way of adding color?

i thought it would be to slick to paint with gel color.

Yes you can use the dusts on candy once it has been molded. You can use candy colors to color the coatings or you can use pre-colored coatings. I do a lot of candy and just use the regular Wilton gel colors along with paramount crystals to color my coatings. It's a little bit trickier but I have been doing it for 25 yrs this way.
