each cake is going to be 4 inches tall. 4 layers of cake, and 3 layers of buttercream then crumb coat buttercream. I would like each layer of buttercream to be about 1/4 inch thick. How much buttercream (cups) per layer am i going to need? I am doing 8,10,12,14,16 round

I never measure my icing .... I just figure about four 2-lb bags of p.sugar for every 7 or 8 cake mixes. If I have some leftover, I store it. If I need more, I make more.

But here's a chart from Wilton that shows icing amounts (far right column)
