I tried searching the boards but I could not find this question asked before:

I really like the cakes with fondant or buttercream with the quilt-like hatch marks on them with little pearls at each cross point. My question is how do you make these pearls by hand?
Fondant or gumpaste?
Luster dust?
How do you make them all the same size?

Thanks!!!

You have options:

1. Buy them pre-made.
2. Buy a pearl mold and then cut the strips apart
3. Use a plain round tip to cut out circles of gumpaste (or fondant) all the same size and roll those by hand into pearls.

Let them dry for a day then place in a small container with a little pearl dust and shake shake shake!

I use Earlene's method works perfect everytime...I just sit and make pearls at night while watching TV, the Olympics right now icon_smile.gif

Definitely! So easy but a bit time-consuming. I use the back end of a normal tip to make mine.

I hand roll all my pearls (watching tv or listening to music deffinately helps as it is a boring job!) i just pich of bits of gumpaste and roll between my hands with a bit of shortening on my hands and leave to dry aplly with fondant glue and lustre-perfect!
