How do you get the glitter on the sides of a cake?

crush it in your hand and blow it onto the sides lol ok i know im gunna get crap for this heheheh but i only do this when its family

maybe let the cake crust and then gently press it onto the cake?

(I tried the blowing thing too), and the patting... both hard to do and blotchy. I dont have an airbrush, but that sounds good. Any more ideas?

Just had a thought.. Would a soft paint brush work? I am talking about butter cream frosting with glitter
