I am doing my first FBCT and I hate it more than cleaning the toilet! And I genuinely dislike cleaning the toilet. Is this why people get the printers and do the edible icing images? How in the heck are you supposed to pipe in peace with 4 kids and 3 others that I DID NOT give birth to running around? I dearly love getting hugs but why do they wait until I am trying to pipe a straight line to barrell into me with the love? Mother of God, I am going to lose my mind and this is literally, DAY 2 of summer break..... there is no way I am going to make it! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

How are you successful FBCT'rs getting the lines straight? Mine look like I drank a bottle of wine before picking up the icing bag. (it was only a small glass, I swear!! icon_lol.gif ) I mean I had a bit of coffee but without it, I am good for nothin'.

So I haven't even gotten this thing finished yet and am already having nightmares about the black outline sticking so I am about to go in search of the edible printer thing. I long to do poker cakes and photo stuff for my kids, not to mention the characters (for my children only, of course) and thought I saw a post about a $69 printer, which was probably pre-crash.

Any thoughts? I had resisted getting a printer, mostly because I thought maybe people thought printer images were sorta cheesy......the DH (totally NOT mad at him right now, so today it does stand for 'Dear Husband' icon_lol.gif) is pretty much in one of those moods where I think I could order one. After helping me last weekend level cakes, he is ready to get the Agbay - its me talking him outta it.

So are these considered professional? Do customers prefer the FBCT that they can cut thru rather than the sheets? I know you can cut thru them but I look forward to using them on gumpaste plaques as well....

Thanks for the rant, anyone else feel free to add to it...... I really do love the children, I do....I am simply losing my mind. icon_redface.gif

I have the same problem with FBCT's, so I bought the printer. I LOVE IT!!!!!! Here is the link

I was nervous too because I thought it might be grocery store corny, but I made my first one a couple weeks ago and it was cute!!
I say go for it if DH is okay with it!!

I find a thinner icing was the key when I made mine. Also, I piped the outline first, froze it for a bit. Piped in one colour, froze that for a bit. Piped in another "filling" colour and froze it. Piped in another, froze it, etc. While the transfer was in the freezer, I would use that time to re-stir the icing, change bag tips if necessary, load bags, etc. So there was actually no down time in reality although I know it sounds rather tedious.

Also, a trick I learned from colour flow - I use my paint brush to push and prod the outline lines where I want them to go after they are on the waxed paper. So if the line I piped is super squiggly, I just use the brush to gently shove it around until it goes where I want it.
