I am trying to make a color flow letter D but don't have any ... Is it the same thing to thin royal icing and use that? Does it have the same effect? I really need to make this tonight so it is dry in time for a wedding cake on Saturday. Thanks for any help!

It's pretty close to the same thing. I think royal icing dries a tiny bit less shiny, but it works just as well.

Yes, I've used color flow a fair bit, and it is shinier than royal icing.

I have used Royal icing for this techinque more than the Color Flow. Yes color flow will make them a little shiner, but you can always brush them with a little pearl dust after dried as well.
